Man detained for neglecting his kids
An Akwa Ibom resident (Nigeria) identified as Henry Edet Unung has been given a one-month jail punishment by an Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, for neglecting his kids.
Henry Edet Unung was detained following a ruling on a lawsuit filed by Unung’s wife and mother of his three children. Certainly, Justice Ntong Ntong instructed the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police to arrest and imprison him for one month at the Uyo Correctional Centre for refusing to take care of his children.
Even more, Justice Ntong also pointed out that the respondent intentionally refused to obey the Court order and decision of Justice Iboro Ukpanah on November 9, 2018. During this time, Henry Edet Unung was meant to pay an N20,000 monthly allowance in addition to a bag of rice, beans, garri, and other food items for his children’s upkeep.
Here is what the Judge said in the statement:
“The court made an order that the respondent should pay N20,000 monthly as maintenance allowance. Nonetheless, including a bag of rice, beans, garri, and other food items for his children. In addition, he should also pay for the children’s school fees, medical needs, clothing, and other necessities.
“You bluntly refused to abide by the Court order, which amounts to scornful and wanton disrespect and affront to the majesty of the Court.”
