A Uganda People Defence Forces – UPDF soldier goes missing after death of a Police Officer. This is because he was alleged to have tortured, killed and dumped the body of a police constable at Mulago City mortuary. As a result, security officials are hunting him down.
Police reports indicate that the suspect, Private Difat Kawaga, with the help of Muhammad Kimbugwe and Lieutenant Swaleh Twegumisa, aided the torture and death of Police Constable Gideon Mbirire.
According to Police, Mbirire was tortured to death by security personnel who arrested him on accusations of hiring out a gun. However, UPDF Kawaga claimed to have saved the officer from a mob on northern bypass.
In contrast, the mortuary reference book information indicates that Kawaga found the body, with no particulars, dumped in Kawanda.
Also, Mbirire was arrested last week along with Asp. Wakisadha Yakub the office in Charge of Kawempe Police Station. This was due to an operation led by Hassan Sabakaki, the Kawempe District Internal Security Officer –DISO, and other operatives of the Internal Security Organization (ISO).
Reports indicate that Yakub, the OC of Nansana Police station are being held at Kawempe on allegations of murder.
However, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga declined to comment on the matter. Rather, he said that he was busy handling the matter of Ronald Ssebulime, who police gunned down in cold blood.
