According to the latest reports by sportpesa firm, it’s official that they will no longer sponsor any Kenya football clubs. Probably, this is because the firm has not been operational for about a month and a half. Rather, there are reasons why Sportpesa Withdraws Sponsorship on football Sports in Kenya.
Certainly, Sportpesa recently mentioned of unsettled dialogue with the government. Rather, the unresolved issue with the state further led to the cancellation of its licenses. Subsequently, the firm’s pay bill numbers were suspended hence there is no business they can engage its clients.
Again, CEO Ronald Karauri recently stated to Game Yetu, a standard media newspaper that he has no problem. “I will continue supporting”, he said. We are yet to know whether the company shall resolve it’s problems or not.
On the other hand, the firm has been sponsoring the Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, as well as Kariobangi Sharks. The firm has been funding both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards KSh120,000 ($1200) every year. AFC Leopards club has expressed its fears over the withdrawal by the firm. This is because they to a greater extent, usually, rely on financial support from the sportpesa company.
