2 kg maize flour prices in Kenya down to KSh100 from July 18th, 2022.
The government has introduced a massive subsidy to maize millers across the country.
Since the onset of June 2022, maize flour prices in Kenya kept rising to a high of KSh230 in July. According to the current reports by the Government of Kenya, a 2 kg pack of maize flour in Kenya will cost KSh100. Hence, this will be effective on July 19th, 2022.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Agriculture, all retailers should sell a 2 kg pack of maize flour at KSh100 maximum. Below is part of the statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.
“It is agreed between the parties that the ministry shall deploy market surveillance teams to ensure that sifted maize flour is sold at the maximum recommended retail price stated. The market price of maize (per 90kg bag) as of the date of this contract is in the range of Ksh5,800 and Ksh6,000. Based on this market price, MOALFC will compensate the miller for each unit sold.”
Maize flour prices in Kenya down to KSh100
However, the subsidy for the maize flour prices in Kenya will be on for four weeks. Further, this oversight will be done by the Ministry of Agriculture as well as the National Treasury, Cereal Millers Association, and Grain Mill Owners Association.
Most importantly, the Ministry of Agriculture will deploy its representatives at the premises and depots of millers. This is to ascertain proof of the sale of maize flour into the market at the proposed prices. Certainly, this will be done by checking invoices to the millers’ customers for the flour being sold and delivery records.
Lastly, a 5 kg Maize Flour price in Kenya will cost KSh250 across the country from today.
