List of all the agriculture courses offered at Makerere University, college of agricultural and environmental sciences in Uganda today.
Uganda is one of the countries with the best agricultural lands in Africa. This is because of the fact that its land is blessed with rainfall and good climatic conditions throughout the year. However, without the right skills and insight of how to utilize the land for agricultural benefits, nothing will be reaped from it. It’s for that reason that the government has established several agricultural institutes and colleges in Uganda.

Similarly, we also had a comprehensive list of the most marketable agricultural courses in Uganda from 2020 to 2030. Today, we shall educate you on the highly demanding agriculture courses offered at Makerere university.

Agriculture Courses Offered at Makerere University

1. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering

An ordinary Technician Diploma, with at least credit 3 in Mathematics, from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
A candidate with a diploma may be exempted from year 1 if he/she has passed successfully (with at least credit 3) in the following courses:
(i) Engineering Mathematics
(ii) Engineering Drawing
(iii) Engineering Mechanics
(iv) Electrical Engineering
(v) Mechanical Engineering
(vi) Mechanics of Materials
(vii) Introduction to Computers
(viii) Thermodynamics

2. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma in Agriculture or Animal Husbandry or its equivalent obtained from a recognized Institution of Higher Learning.
Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in Biology or Chemistry at A level.

3 Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology

A National diploma in either:
(i) Food Science, or Food Technology
(ii) Veterinary Science
(ii) Forestry or Agriculture
(iii) Fisheries
(iv) Laboratory Technology
(v) Education (for applicants that studied at least two of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Human Nutrition, Agriculture, Physics).
(vii) Dairy Science, Technology, Microbiology, and Nutrition.

4. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Land Use and
Management

At least Class II (Lower Division) Diploma in Agriculture and related fields including Environmental Sciences or its equivalent obtained from recognized Institutions of Higher Learning.
Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Agriculture at A level.

5. Bachelor of Agricultural and Rural Innovation

Holders of Class II Ordinary Technical Diploma in Agricultural related field or it’s equivalent from recognized Institutions.
Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, or Entrepreneurship at A level.

6. Bachelor of Agribusiness Management

At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or Agricultural related Business Studies or it’s equivalent from recognized Institution.
Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal Pass in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, or Entrepreneurship at A level.

7. Bachelor of Science in Horticulture

At least Class II (Lower Division) National Diploma or it’s equivalent in Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture, or Biological Sciences from a recognized Institution.
Applicants must have obtained at least a Principal pass in Biology or Chemistry or Agriculture at A level.

8. Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition

Holders of the following Second Class or Credit Diplomas are eligible for admission.
a) Diploma in Education, Applicants must have studied the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Home Economics.
b) A Higher National Diploma from a recognized Institution in any of the following courses: Chemistry, Human Nutrition, Home Economics, Food Science, Science and Technology, Agriculture, and Health.
c) Ordinary Diploma from a recognized Institution in any of the following:
(i) Science Technology (Biology)
(ii) Science Technology (Chemistry, Biochemistry)
(iii) Food Processing
(iv) Agriculture, Biology.
d) Diploma from any of the following Paramedical Institutions.
(i) Medical Laboratory Technologists
(ii) Medical Assistants
(iii) Public Health Assistants
(iv) Uganda Registered Nurses/Midwives.

9. Bachelor of Tourism

At least any Second Class Diploma from a recognized institution.

10. Bachelor of Science in Meteorology

At least a Second Class Diploma in Meteorology or it’s equivalent from recognized institutions.

11. Bachelor of Conservation Forestry & Products Technology

A National Diploma in Forestry, Horticulture, Agroforestry, or Agriculture, or it’s equivalent from a recognized institution.

12. Bachelor of Social & Entrepreneurial Forestry

A National Diploma in Forestry, Horticulture, Agroforestry, or Agriculture, or it’s equivalent from a recognized Institution. And finally,

13. Bachelor of Environmental Science

Holders of Relevant Diploma (at least a Second Class) in Science related subjects from Makerere University or other recognized Institutions.

In general, the list above comprises of all the agriculture courses offered at Makerere University in Uganda.
